No 'Hey Ya' Without The Hives

You know what? Andre 3000 rules:
RS: Was there a show that changed your life?

ANDRE BENJAMIN: I wouldn't say it changed my life, but a while ago I flew to New York just to see the Hives. My flight was late, and I didn't get to see but the last twenty minutes, when they played every song I loved. At one point they were jamming so hard, and then right on cue they all stopped. They held their post for at least a minute. Nobody moved, sweat was dripping and they were like statues. They didn't have to play shit, and the crowd was going crazy. When they cranked it back up, the show went to a whole different plateau. The crowd went nuts, nuts, nuts! I wouldn't have written "Hey Ya!" if it weren't for the Hives.
Now that is just cool. Flying into New York just for the Hives... this guy just loves music and he gets my respect for that.

And, No it doesn't matter that 'Hey Ya' was overplayed: it is a great song.

Bizzare Songs VH1 Classics' The Alternative Makes Me Buy

Tepole Tudor? The Polecats? DAMN YOU VH1 CLASSIC!!! Why must your show be so addictive? And iTunes had them both (f@#king enabler... can't you see how weak I am?)

(sorry, YouTube seems a bit slow today)

Into The Valley

Before there was Big Country, there was the Skids: Stuart Adamson's 'punk' band. Couple of really great songs. Really worth a listen.

We're Winning!

L.A.'s only country music station closes!!! Yay!

Personally I think it was the billboards that seemed to be taunting women by showing a woman all over a clearly super gay cowboy. Either way, who cares? LA is now country free!!! I take it all back: clearly praying does work and the Baby Jesus used his magic powers to help the cause.

Or maybe it was Satan. I don't know, prayed to them both. Guess I'll figure that out when someone comes to collect. Either way it was worth it.

The bad news? The new station will have Rick Dees as it's main attraction.

Do You Like It Live?

Haven't fully explored it yet myself, but rbally seems to have a nice collection of live shows: Golden Smog, R.E.M., Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dinosaur Jr (@ Lollapalooza no less), check out their archives.

Why Clash Mickey? Why the hell not?

How To Improve Navigation on Your iPod

This is a pretty interesting article on how to make finding artists easier on your iPod... there are some problems, but it could be a solution for someone (me? I had to tweak it a bit).

Has Everyone Seen This Yet? No? OkGo!

Genius.

Just talking to someone at Capitol and they won't underestimate OkGo again.

The Return of World Party

Damn. They just played at the Roxy and I missed it. F@#k. I have to start reading the LA Weekly a bit more religously (almost missed the Billy Bragg is coming in October too!).

Interesting bit over on Yahoo News. Lots of good World Party out there, but I will leave you with this video for right now:

Videos That Time Forgot

U2 "A Celebration"

I was watching VH1 Classic (love it!) one day and this video came on... and I was shocked: here was a U2 video I had never seen for a song I had never heard. I could place the timing of it (it looks like they filmed it the same weekend as the video for 'Gloria'). Within hours I had an MP3 of the live version. I love the Internet (yes, I also bought it from iTunes when they made it available)

Sorry I haven't been posting... work & life conspire against me. If nothing else I will be posting videos!
